A Hamilton construction worker Carlos Saldarriaga Palacio and a mother from Stoney Creek, Alice Jakubowski have both had a great August, thanks to their respective recent lottery wins.
30-year-old Carlos Saldarriaga Palacio plans to funnel his winnings into an investment portfolio and his family’s needs. His win of $333,333 in the June 22 Lotto Max gives him ample resources to do just that.
Saldarriaga Palacio recalled his elation after he checked his ticket purchased at the Shell on Plains Road in Burlington.
“I was shaking. I was so happy and excited,” he said.
Alice Jakubowski stated that she plans to use her $100,000 Encore prize for numerous things, including settling some bills, buying a new barbecue, and getting a day of pampering in the spa.
Jakubowski revealed that she has been a regular lottery player for decades and was stunned when she matched the last six of seven numbers on a ticket she had bought at K&J Variety on Westoak Trails Boulevard in Oakville.
“I am so grateful. It is exciting to win a big amount after all these years of playing. It’s hard to believe,” she said.
