Canadian lotteries have been around for 40 years and in celebration of this milestone, the nationally-favoured Lotto 6/49 game is receiving a few upgrades to increase its appeal. The improved version will add two multi-million dollar jackpots with every draw.
Lotto 6/49 has generated over $65 billion in sales since its launch and paid out over $32 billion in prizes. The lottery has also funneled billions of dollars into priority programs and essential services across the provinces.
Not Long Now
The new chapter in Lotto 6/49’s life begins in September 2022 and you will have to be aware of the new rules that come with the revamp.
The main draw will be renamed as the Classic Draw with a $$5 million jackpot up for grabs with every round. The Guaranteed Prize will be replaced by the Gold Ball Jackpot, which will still award a guaranteed prize to one player per draw.
This new increasing jackpot will start at $10 million, with a cap of $60 million. Players will also be glad to hear that ticket prices will remain unchanged at $3.
Regardless of these changes, you can still purchase tickets via all the usual methods like a lottery retailer or online at provincially-regulated online platforms like OLG.ca, lotoquebec.com, alc.ca, or PlayNow.com.
There is also no change to how you choose your numbers. You can still select your six-number set from 1 to 49, or use Insta Pick to randomise your choice. The new Lotto 6/49’s first draw will happen on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, with tickets for the updated game going on sale on Sunday, September 11, 2022.
2022 has seen the popular lottery continue in its tradition of awarding huge prizes to lucky players. In January, the OLG reported that a Barrie ticketholder was awarded a huge $36.4 million. Although the winner has not been identified yet, they have 52 weeks from the date of the draw to claim their prize.
