Stony Plain may be a small town in Alberta but one of its residents recently received some huge news. Dennis Hinds was not expecting the $2 million prize he stumbled upon after purchasing a scratch lottery ticket.
In an official press release, the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) revealed that Hinds had obtained two Zing lottery tickets from the Main Street Home Health Pharmacy and then headed home to relax with the newspaper. He only scratched his tickets later that day which is when he came upon the pleasant surprise.
“I’m rich! Hind exclaimed.
“I scratched one ticket and it wasn’t a winner, but the next ticket was a different story.”
When questioned about his plans for the money, the lucky winner revealed that he plans to help his children and put the remainder in the bank.
The WCLC’s Zing scratch lottery tickets come in a variety of themes and regularly dish out massive prizes. $2 million was won by Calgary resident Tracey Austinson in January 2021 and Three Hills resident Les Bruck became the 19th Albertan to win a lottery prize over a million in 2021 when he scratched his way to $1 million award from a BIG 10 ticket in May.
