Great Canadian welcomes guests back to Casino Nova Scotia in Halifax

Great Canadian is celebrating the reopening of Casino Nova Scotia in Halifax, marking the third reopening of its 26 operations, the remainder of which remain shuttered.

The venues reopening comes with a range of modifications, including reductions in operating hours, slot machine play with limited table games, and food and beverage amenities. The guest capacity has been reduced to approximately 20% of the maximum capacity before the initial closure on March 16, 2020.

On January 8, an announcement from the Nova Scotia provincial government confirmed that selected gaming establishments in the Halifax Regional Municipality could reopen and Casino Nova Scotia, Halifax was on that list.

The second closure of the property happened on November 26, 2020, as part of the Nova Scotia provincial government's initiative to curtail the spread of COVID-19 in the province.

Below is the current Status of Great Canadian's casino operations.

Ontario:

  • Casino Woodbine reopened on September 28 with a guest capacity of 50, no table games or food and beverage amenities. It closed again on October 9.
  • Elements Casino Mohawk and Elements Casino Flamboro reopened on September 28 with a guest capacity of 50, with no table-games or food and beverage amenities. Both closed again on November 15.
  • Casino Ajax and Great Blue Heron Casino reopened on September 28 with a guest capacity of 50, with no table-games or food and beverage amenities. Both closed again on November 22.
  • Elements Casino Grand River reopened on September 28 with a guest capacity of 50, no table games or food and beverage amenities. It closed again on December 14.
  • Elements Casino Brantford reopened on September 28 with a guest capacity of 50, no table games or food and beverage amenities. It closed again on December 20.
  • Shorelines Casino Thousand Islands, Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs, Shorelines Casino Belleville, and Shorelines Casino Peterborough all reopened on September 28 with a guest capacity of 50, no table games or food and beverage amenities. They all closed again on December 24.

Nova Scotia:

  • Casino Nova Scotia Halifax reopened on October 5 with a guest capacity of approximately 20% of its pre-closure capacity and limited table games and food and beverage amenities introduced on November 12. The venue closed again on November 26 but has now reopened.
  • Casino Nova Scotia Sydney reopened on October 5, with a guest capacity of approximately 20% of its pre-closure capacity, no table-games are, and limited food and beverage amenities are available. The venue remains open.
