A new study has indicated that Ontario has the potential to become North America’s largest regulated online jurisdiction. Reports coming out of Canada predict that the new market is likely to be launched in Q1 of 2022.

The latest Bonusfinder.com Index results reveal that following the launch of the province’s iGaming market for private operators in 2022, it is poised to break a series iGaming records and outpace all gaming U.S. states.

The research allocates Ontario a Bonus Index score of 23377, placing it in the top spot and more than doubling New Jersey and Pennsylvania’s ratings.

Astronomical Potential

The study details its findings, pointing to the province's large population of close to 15 million, a significant proportion of who are sportsbook and casino players as part of the reasoning behind its ranking.

Over 70 casino and sportsbook brands are vying for licenses to operate in the province’s iGaming market. This guarantees a highly competitive environment.

Fintan Costello, the Managing Director at BonusFinder.com, shared that the research establishes that a jurisdiction with a high population, a competitive market, large player volumes, and attractive bonus promotions have the perfect formulation to be immensely lucrative.

Costello added that the Bonus Index can be employed effectively to track and predict the potential of the gaming market. He foresees that Ontario will emerge as a dominant force in the industry.

Regulation-Ready

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario has prepared for the imminent launch by forming iGaming Ontario, a new gaming subsidiary. Empowered with its own Board of Directors, the subsidiary has been made responsible for the regulation of all legal online gambling activities in the province. It will also process new applications for iGaming operators.

The President and CEO of the Canadian Gaming Association, Paul Burns recently gave an update on Ontario’s progress towards a fully regulated iGaming space. While he did not offer a definite launch date he stated that it would happen in Q1 of 2022. He added that iGaming Ontario and the AGCO are working diligently to ensure that the opening up of the market happens soon.
