For 20 years, now, Caesars Windsor has been located in the downtown area of the city. This entertainment giant brings shows, gambling, and events to the area. Caesars is now celebrating this important anniversary. We talked to Brian Massey, the Windsor West MP, and Johan Baluyot, the PR manager of Caesars, to learn more about just how and why Caesars and the town are celebrating. We will trace the casino’s history in the area, talk about contributions to the town, and how a new bill could affect the future for Caesars in a positive way.
Struggles and Successes Caesars Windsor has become such a popular hotspot because it offers what other casinos in the North of the United States do not: great shows. But in a post 9/11 world, the border has been tightened between the US and Canada. When a smoking ban was implemented, the casino took another blow to their business. In 2008, the casino felt the sting of economic woes effecting all other businesses in the area. Despite that, the Windsor area casinos have continued to somehow thrive. Baluyot told us it was because of what the brand Caesars offers compared to other casinos.
Humble Philanthropists Massey is very thankful to have such a great business in the Windsor area. He says that, unlike some of the other businesses, Caesars has always been seriously involved in the community. They have helped many philanthropic causes in the community. Also unlike other businesses who have helped out in Windsor, Caesars has not always sought great reward for their involvement. Massey seriously appreciates any and all of their contributions, serving as an official for the community. He feels that their involvement has made them very close to everyone within the local community.
The Future Bill C-90, a bill that would legalize single sports betting, is currently up for vote. Both Massey and Baluyot support this bill. They eagerly await to see if this bill is passed by the Senate. Massey will be lobbying them in the upcoming session. Having single sports betting in the Caesars Windsor would allow them to make even more profits. As it is, casinos as losing millions of dollars on this sort of betting, which is all done illegally Canada. The US has already legalized this sort of betting. In the meantime, both Baluyot and Massey are confident that customers will continue to love what Caesars has to offer.
